Savannah
was formed from Galen, Nov.24.1824. It is the South East corner town of the county. Its surface is broken by drift ridges in the North and is low and marshy in the South about one-third of the South part is a woodland marsh, known as Crusoe Island. Seneca River forms the South part of the East boundary. Crusoe Lake is a smallo, shallow body of water near the center: its outlet, Crusoe Creek, flows into Seneca River. The soil in the North is a sandy and gravelly loam, and in the South it is principally composed of Muck and Shell mart.
(1) A tract of about 1,900 acres in the South East part is an open marsh, producing coarse grass.

Community Gardens

Are you interested in planting a garden this year, but do not have the space or quality of soil that would be good for a garden. Contact Julie vanLeeuwen at 365-3336 to save a spot in the community gardens which are located on Seneca Street near the Savannah Community Church. A special thanks goes to Fred Baker for sharing some of his land for this purpose. It is the perfect time to be putting in your plants and seeds. The cold weather is gone and hopefully the warm summer weather is here to stay. Again contact Julie vanLeeuwen at

365-3336 if you are interested.

S.A.F.E. will be finalizing their summer programs and sending an information packet to each household by the middle of June. Keep your eye out for this.

On June 22, there will be a Roller Skating Party at the Savannah Elementary School immediately after school until 5:30 PM . The cost will be $3.00 a person with families of 3 or more having a special family rate.

We have planned a trip to Sea Breese again, as well as the Syracuse Zoo.  This year we also have someone who will be leading a group of youth on some nature hikes in our town.

A Babysitting Clinic will be offered at the Family of God Church on Route 31 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 29.  The cost will be $8.00 for youth ages 12 and older. Call Carol Spellman at 365-3156 for reservations. The class is limited to 15 youth.
The Savannah Fire Department are beginning to plan for their 125th Anniversary. They are looking for pictures or artifacts of the Fire Department. Please look in your family albums if your parents, grandparents or great grandparents served as a fireman in Savannah. Contact Jesse Ball at 365-3796. if you have any items that will help in that celebration.
